I have to admit that the Resident Evil films have been a guilty pleasure of mine for as long as they have been around. Milla Jovovich is the embodiment of the female action star and she owns that particular title in each of these often ridiculous but always entertaining films.

One of the things that has to be discussed right away is that RE:A was actually filmed in 3D (like James Cameron's Avatar blockbuster) while admittedly most of the effects were obviously over the top for that reason, it suited this film well, once and for all cementing the fact that the extra investment during production provides a much better product than the common post production 3D hack jobs. (we are looking at you Clash of the Titans and Alice in Wonderland) Although it is hard to say that the 3D effects added much to the film I can say it didn't detract from it at all.

Fans of the Resident Evil games will notice a distinct return to the games cannon with a special appearance from a certain Executioner from the fifth installment of the game franchise. It really seemed as though Anderson spent the majority of the film bringing the franchise back to its video game roots and setting up the next installment in the film series.

Over all this is a fun film and worth watching in cinema, if you want to check out the 3D version I suggest a matinee showing to offset the additional costs. Times are tough and we rarely see examples of films worth the 3D rates. I give this film {{{4 out of 5}}}

  1. It probably isn't the worst out there but I much prefer playing Tomb Raider to watching the films. Great review love.
