This is a film that is fun every time you see it. The first time I saw it in theaters I was an awe it is well paced action packed and does everything you hope a super hero film will do. It does focus the first act on how Stark becomes the titular hero but it is done in an interesting and enveloping way.

If you had no idea who Iron Man/Tony Stark was before you sat down to watch this film, you were well informed 20 minutes in. This is the film that saved Robert Downey Jr.'s career. The material and science is close enough to reality that you can suspend your disbelief and really enjoy the film.

The film comments on the current political climate with out making the film about terrorism or the war in the Middle East. I enjoyed this film start to finish. {{{I give it 4.5 out of 5}}}

For me personally the best part of a superhero film is finding out the back story - where the superhero came from/what made them. Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, was a weapons designer kidnapped by terrorists.

This film was all about the character history so I was immediately hooked; as a pacifist the sentiments about the cyclical nature of war/terror and the invention and development of weapons is one close to my heart.

Compared to other superhero histories this is quite in tune with the current political climate. Stark becomes Iron Man in body and mind by his encounters with terrorists in Afghanistan. A theme popular in culture since 9/11 brought terrorism to the forefront of people's minds.

I also enjoyed the visual and special effects such as the advanced three-dimensional computer designs. The concepts were not so far from reality as to be unbelievable. I am pretty sure Japan is already way ahead of this film for example.

With a charming and yet deep performance by Robert Downey Jr this film is both fun and thought-provoking. A great superhero film, if that is your tipple. I give this film <<<4.5 out of 5>>>

If you need a family friendly rental for a night in this movie is the answer. It will entertain the kids and keep the parents on the edge of their seats.

We give it 9 out of 10.

  1. I agree with what you both havesaid. As a comicbook nerd,Ii have to say that the modernization of Iron Man's backstory was well done and definetly worked well to appeal their US audience.

  3. Funny without being cartoonish and serious without being dull, a difficult balance that also happens to be an apt one-line bio for Downey Jr.
